St. Petersburg, Fla– Will Owen completed his first weekend of the 2015 Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires with two eight-place finishes at the streets of St. Petersburg.  The Juncos Racing driver made the best of a complicated weekend and managed to score valuable points for the championship.

The 20 year old driver qualified eightth for race #1 in what turned out to be a highly competitive session, his best time of 1m11.9788 was only three tenths off the pole sitter’s time.  During the race Owen managed to stay out of trouble and crossed the finish line in eight only 11 seconds behind the leader.

The second race of the weekend turned out to be a much more hectic event for Owen, who after starting ninth narrowly missed a massive multi-car pile up on Turn 4, sending him to the back of the pack.  After the restart the rookie managed to quickly start recovering positions and eventually climbed back up to eighth.

The next round in the Pro Mazda Championship will take place April 11-12 ta NOLA Motorsports park in New Orleans, Louisiana where Owen scored two podiums finishes during the Winterfest in Febrary.

“It was a pretty tough weekend out there, it was my first street course in the Pro Mazda car and it was a big change coming from the Winterfest.  St. Pete is a tough street course and I had to really build some confidence out there and get used to running close to the walls.  But it turned out alright; we ended up with some solid results for the start of the season.

The Juncos team did a great job, we had some minor issues but they managed to fix everything right away and gave all four of us very fast cars.  Now I’m definitely looking forward to going back to NOLA where we scored our first podium finishes!”
