St. Petersburg, Fla. (30 March 2014) – Rising Star Racing driver Spencer Pigot once again delivered a stellar performance on the streets of St. Petersburg on Sunday as he followed up Saturday’s Race 1 victory with another dominating win in Race 2. Two big results in the opening rounds of the 2014 Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tires season see Pigot emerge from the weekend with the lead in the championship standings.

Pigot started from the pole position in his No. 7 Doug Mockett & Company/Rising Star Racing/Vitamin-DPro App/California Scents/Juncos Racing machine and never looked back – increasing his advantage over the field with each lap. The young pilot made it look easy as he gapped the entire field to take the checkered flag nearly 6.5-seconds over second place in the  23-lap, caution-free race.

“It’s just been a perfect weekend,” said an enthused Pigot. “We topped every session, had two poles and won both races so you can’t ask for anything more than that. The Juncos Racing guys are awesome. I’m from Orlando so I have a lot of people here to support me so thank you to everyone. Mockett, Rising Star Racing, Vitamin D Pro - and Advance Auto Parts and Peak for this race as well. Thanks to everyone. I’m feeling really good right now. It’s just been a flawless performance from the team at the Winterfest and this weekend as well. There is a lot of racing yet to go but I’m very excited.”

Rising Star Racing teammate Neil Alberico also ran strongly in the No. 2 Bondurant School/eFormulaCarNews.com/J&M Trophy Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing entry. Alberico started from eighth on the grid and worked his way forward through some tight racing in the opening laps to take sixth at the finish.

“It was a good race and great to score points in the first two races of the season,” said Alberico, who also scored sixth in the opening round. “We’re still trying to develop the car and make sure we’re on top of things. Overall as a team I think we should be right up there heading into Barber. Leaving here with good information and looking forward to the rest of the season. The Advance Auto Parts and Peak Performance guys are great. It was awesome seeing everyone last night at dinner and they were having a blast checking out the car and steering wheel. It’s really unique to show them an inside look at the open wheel stuff. The more people that come out, the more fun it is, so we’re glad to have them aboard. The Rising Star Racing people are awesome – good luck to Josef (Newgarden) this afternoon – we’ll be watching!”

Rising Star Racing had a large group of supporters in attendance for the weekend’s race festivities and celebrated together Saturday evening at the Rising Star Racing team dinner held at the Vinoy.

Fellow Rising Star Racing driver Josef Newgarden will take part in the Verizon IndyCar Series season opener this afternoon as the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg takes the green flag at 3:20 PM ET.

The three Rising Star Racing drivers will be back in race action next month as the trio travels to Barber Motorsports Park April 26-27.
